The General Body of BGCA
The General Body of Bheem Gyan Charcha Association forms the broad and essential foundation of the organisation. It consists of all General Members and Volunteers who have associated themselves with the mission of spreading the knowledge, philosophy and ideals of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. While the Core Committee provides leadership and strategic direction, it is the General Body that gives life, continuity and reach to the Association’s work. Without the active presence and participation of General Members, no programme, no shivir, no discussion and no outreach effort can succeed in a meaningful way.
General Members come from different backgrounds, age groups, professions and regions. What unites them is a shared belief in the transformative power of education, equality and social awakening. Some join after attending a One-Day Bheem Gyan Charcha, some after participating in a Shivir, some after being inspired by Bauddh Mahotsava, and many others simply because they feel a deep inner call to contribute to the cause that Babasaheb dedicated his life to. The General Body is therefore not a closed or exclusive group; it is an open, growing and inclusive collective of people who choose to walk the path of knowledge and service.
In the structure of BGCA, the General Body represents the democratic spirit of the Association. It is through the involvement, feedback and energy of General Members that the organisation remains connected to the ground realities of society. Their experiences, suggestions and voluntary efforts help shape programmes, improve outreach methods and keep the mission relevant to the needs of the present generation. In this sense, every General Member is not merely a supporter but an active stakeholder in the journey of BGCA.
Roles of General Members & Volunteers
The roles performed by General Members and Volunteers are wide-ranging and flexible. There is no single fixed job description, because the work of spreading Babasaheb’s message itself is multi-dimensional. A General Member may begin by simply attending programmes and study circles, gradually taking on more responsibilities as confidence and commitment grow. Many members naturally evolve into dedicated Volunteers who offer their time and skills for specific tasks without seeking any formal position or recognition.
In practical terms, General Members and Volunteers support almost every activity of the Association. They help in the planning and smooth conduct of Bauddh Mahotsava held every year on 25th December. They assist in organising Various Shivirs — whether residential camps or day-long training programmes — by looking after registration, logistics, arrangements, discipline and participant coordination. During One-Day Bheem Gyan Charcha programmes held at different places, they work as field coordinators, facilitators, literature distributors and local contact persons. In the Competitive Examination guidance initiatives, they support students through mentoring, study material distribution, motivational sessions and follow-up.
Beyond event-based work, Volunteers also contribute to documentation, photography, report writing, digital outreach, social media updates, maintenance of contact lists, and communication with local communities and educational institutions. Some members with teaching or public-speaking ability serve as resource persons in study circles and discussion sessions. Others prefer quiet, consistent work behind the scenes — preparing material, managing arrangements, or simply ensuring that every participant feels welcomed and respected. All these roles are equally important, because the success of any programme depends on the collective effort of many hands working with a common purpose.
The Association deliberately avoids creating unnecessary hierarchy among General Members and Volunteers. What is valued is sincerity, consistency and willingness to learn and serve. A first-time Volunteer who helps with seating arrangements is as much a part of the mission as a senior member who has been associated for many years. This spirit of equality and mutual respect is itself a reflection of the values that Babasaheb stood for.
Duties & Responsibilities
Membership of the General Body of BGCA carries with it certain duties and responsibilities that every member is expected to understand and uphold. The foremost duty is to remain faithful to the aims and ideals of the Association — namely, the dissemination of Babasaheb’s knowledge, the promotion of constitutional values, and the strengthening of a society based on liberty, equality, fraternity and justice. Every General Member and Volunteer should, in their personal and public conduct, reflect these values and avoid any behaviour that contradicts them.
Active participation is another important responsibility. Members are encouraged to attend programmes, study circles and meetings as regularly as their circumstances permit. When a specific duty is assigned — whether related to an event, a campaign, documentation or outreach — it should be accepted with seriousness and completed with sincerity. Timely communication with the concerned programme coordinator or Core Committee member is essential so that work can be planned and executed smoothly. Discipline, punctuality and cooperative behaviour during all Association activities are expected from every member.
General Members and Volunteers also share the responsibility of protecting the name, reputation and platform of Bheem Gyan Charcha Association. The name and logo of BGCA must not be used for any personal, commercial, political or sectarian purpose without prior written permission of the Core Committee. Members should refrain from spreading unverified information, creating unnecessary controversies, or engaging in any activity that may bring disrepute to the Association or dilute its focus on knowledge and social awakening.
In interpersonal dealings, members are expected to maintain mutual respect, democratic discussion and a spirit of fraternity. Differences of opinion, when they arise, should be expressed in a constructive manner and resolved through dialogue rather than confrontation. Volunteers, in particular, are encouraged to remain flexible, open to learning, and ready to support different programmes as the need arises. By working together in this spirit, the General Body strengthens not only the programmes of BGCA but also the larger culture of collective responsibility and ethical conduct that Babasaheb envisioned.

Together, through consistent and collective effort, we can continue the great work of knowledge, awakening and social transformation that Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar began.
